Taking Your Beloved Pet on Holidays

If you opt to take your pet with you when spending your holidays abroad, here are some things you need to know to make sure that your beloved furry friend is safe and secured at all times.

The first thing that you need to know before travelling with your cat or dog is her health condition. Schedule a check-up with your veterinarian at least a week before your flight. The doctor will be able to advise you on any medication you need to bring should your dog or cat be allergic to anything. In addition, take note of your vet's number so you can call him regarding any medical concern you may have while travelling.

Some countries require that you have a pet passport and so, make sure that you check with their embassy and find out if there are any special documents you need to bring with you. Typically, the most important paperwork you need to present is health certificate for your pet and the proof of all her vaccinations. In addition, you also need to secure an identification tag, which includes your pet's name, address, and the name and number of the person to contact in case of emergency. It is also advisable to keep a recent photograph of your dog or cat, just in case.

Most of all, it is wise to check the hotel or resort that you will be staying in if they allow pets. This is crucial especially if you are travelling on a peak season as a lot of establishments do not accept animals to avoid discouraging other guests.
